CSAA is an intensive two-week academy that provides youth opportunities to gain experience in the artistic fields of acting, creative writing, dance, music composition, video production, photography, visual and vocal arts. Academy dates are:
July 16 – July 28, 2012, on the Campus of East Central University in Ada, Okla.
The Festival of the Arts celebration will showcase student works on the final day.
Students from age 8 through 12 will participate in the Fine Arts Rotation to enjoy a balanced and multi-disciplined approach to the arts through classes in visual arts, theatre, creative writing, dance and vocal music. Cultural enrichment in Chickasaw and southeast Native cultures enhances the Fine Arts Rotation subject matter.
Level Two students, ages 13 through 19, must audition from an expanded number of disciplines in one of two tracks: 1) a Major/Minor track in the disciplines of 2-D and 3-D visual arts, theatre performance, creative writing, dance and vocal music; or 2) an all day Major study track in music composition, photography, theatre technology, video production or textile design. Level Two students who live outside the Ada area are offered full-time residential stay on the campus of ECU during academy as space allows.
The deadline to receive applications is Friday, April 6, 2012.
The division of arts and humanities is a division of the Chickasaw Nation, a federally recognized and sovereign Indian Nation. The division will provide scholarships to Chickasaw students accepted into the academy. Other Native American students and non-native students are welcome and encouraged to apply.
